Safari Lodges
Saruni Samburu

Samburu Saruni is a design lodge located on Kalama Conservancy next to Samburu National Reserve, in Kenya’s wild Northern Frontier District.

Owned and operated by Saruni  in the Masai Mara, Saruni Samburu has been facilitated by the Northern Rangeland Trust (Nrt), an umbrella organization developed by Lewa Wildlife Conservancy to promote tourism and conservation in Northern Kenya.
The main dining/ lounge area is Perched on the top of the Kalama mountains with an all round view of Northen Kenya all the way to snow-covered Mount Kenya. There are four houses (two of them are large family villas with two separate bedrooms each and two spectacular bahrooms), a large swimming pool with dramatic view over Samburuland.
Architect Lengai Croze did some conceptual drawings for this lodge, Mark however implemented them on the ground and took the conceptual drawings to the finished product using his artistic experience.

The roof design and materials used are a new concept that Mark used at Ol Lentile. To give the free form shape and finish, ferrous cement was poured over a steel structure. A bitumous membrane was then bonded to this to provide a water proof finish. The final screed was applied on to of this with the required color finish. The houses are open at the front side with netting and zipped blinds that could be put down depending on the wishes of the occupant.
